One of the greatest privileges and blessings in my life is to be a mother. Every day adds another memory to the beautiful tapestry of motherhood. I loved cuddling them close and breathing in that fresh baby smell; Baby Magic lotion still triggers sweet memories. Listening to their baby chatter and watching as their minds created a magical world that was limited only to their own imagination never failed to amaze me. I even enjoyed the “teenage” years and my role in helping guide them through the pitfalls and drama. We all survived and now I can sit back and look with pride at the men, husbands and daddies they have become. Steven and Philip, no matter what age you have attained, I will always keep you close to my heart and never forget the feel of little arms around my neck and a sweet little voice saying, “I love you Mommy.”Over the years, I have given you many words of advice and here are the ones I hope that you will continue to apply for the rest of your life and pass along to the precious little ones that God has placed in your care.
1. Your parents don’t really get smarter, you just learn to listen.
2. Begin every day with praise and end every day with thanksgiving.
3. You only get one time around; make every day count.
4. Nothing you can do can ever make me stop loving you.
5. Truth matters, find it, hold to it and defend it.
6. Every marriage is perfect, it’s the people that are imperfect.
7. You will know you are a successful parent when your adult child starts sounding like you.
8. God is not mad at you.
9. Take time to do the Mickey Mouse dance with a child.
10. Having all your family for the holidays really is the best gift.
11. Grandchildren are the closest thing to a do-over in life.
12. The cool kids in high school are still working at the hot dog stand.
13. True friends are excited about your success.
14. Nothing is more rewarding than 2 little arms around your neck and a little voice saying, I wuv you so much.”
15. God is ready to pour all of your blessings on you if you will quit plugging the spout.
16. If you are having a bad day, do something nice for someone else, your day will change.
17. Plan a Date Night. Leave the kids at Grandma’s. They will have fun and so will you.
18. A clean house may make you feel accomplished, but a fun day with your family will make you feel loved.
19. You can’t make it through life without being full of the Holy Ghost.
20. You will never really appreciate your parents until they aren’t around.
21. Although the night is dark, God’s mercies are new every morning, so go to bed.
22. Become best friends with your spouse.
23. The greatest inheritance you can leave your children is a Godly Foundation.
24. Find something silly to laugh about every day; who cares if no one else gets it.
25. At the end of your life God’s opinion is the only one that matters.
